Integrative Mental Health Certificate

Course description

The Integrative Mental Health program at Osler Education is aimed to enhance the knowledge, skills, approach and management of those engaged in a working and professional environment surrounding mental health. This program will give a better understanding on how to appropriately assess and manage mental health situations and individuals.

Mental Health & Addictions

This is an introductory course outlining mental health and how to asses and manage an individual who may be in need of intervention and support. This course will also provide the basics of mental health first aid as well as the effects of modern day society on individuals struggling with mental health.

Trauma & Mental Health

Students will learn about post-traumatic stress and how traumatic events can affect individuals mentally, physical, emotionally and spiritually.

Depression & Mood Disorders

During this course, students will grasp and understand cognitive, behavioral, social theories of various mood disorders including substance abuse, personality disorders, panic attacks and more.

Substance Abuse

This course will give a general overview of the effects of substance abuse on an individual physically and psychologically. The course will outline the relationship between substance abuse and mental health problems and how to manage substance abuse. It will also review the effects of substance abuse and youth addictions in school violence and family dynamics.


This course is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills to effectively provide practical and emotional support for individuals struggling to cope with stress, anger, grief, guilt, withdrawal, fear and feelings of hopelessness. Psychosis, thought and dissociative disorders will be examined throughout this course.

Clinical Mental Health

During this course, students will learn key components of the mental status examination and how to adequate approach a clinical differential diagnosis utilizing the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (DSM) thoroughly and effectively.

The objective of the Integrative Mental Health course is to provide a better understanding of the disorders that constitute mental illnesses. This course will serve to enhance individual skills on how to better assess and manage mental health situations and those suffering from mental health.

The Integrative Mental Health program is an Instructor-led, lecture style certificate program that runs for a period of 8-weeks (40-hours). It is recommended that notes are taken during class and the Instructors will suggest recommended reading but textbooks are not required. The textbook will be a good source to follow and even after the courses are complete. The class instructors are professionals with extensive experience in mental health.

This course is specifically designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of medical students/graduates, residents, healthcare professionals, community and social workers, educators and law enforcement officials who work with individuals with mental health or mood disorders.
